Christmas with the Prophets and a Giveaway

December 14, 2011 by The Things I Love Most

Winner is #2  Ten Cow said…
Oh, and I’m following you on facebook now. I hope I win! It looks like a nice book!

Because we are talking about Christmas Traditions this week I was very excited to receive this book Christmas With the Prophets from Deseret Book last week.  A book written by Laura F. Willes.  It is GORGEOUS and very well written and put together with great pictures and wonderful stories.   5046907_Christmas_with_the_Prophets_detail
My daughter was actually the first to pick it up {she is 8} and has really enjoyed reading it.  Here is her review of it…Smile

It teaches me about certain Christmases the prophets had.  That they went through some terrible Christmases {Joseph Smith}, but also had some wonderful Christmases.   Brigham Young, one Christmas, had almost 100 people over for Christmas Dinner! Can you believe that!?  The reason why I like this book is because it helps me understand Christmases with the Prophets and the hard and good things they went through.

She is so cute!  I love that she is reading books like these now!
There are great stories about each prophets life and also some of their traditions and memories and even hardships!  I thought the account about the St. George temple and that the saints worked hard on it even on Christmas day was very touching.   5046907_christmas_prophets_interior_detail
And I LOVE this pictures of President Hunter…

And I always love the stories that President Monson shares!
The inside cover of the book says…

How did Joseph Smith celebrate Christmas? What did John Taylor say about the pioneers’ first Christmas in the Salt Lake Valley? What was the heartening message that George Albert Smith included on his 1945 Christmas cards? Christmas with the Prophets provides glimpses into the individual Christmas celebrations of each President of the Church, with recurring themes of missionary efforts, Church work, family, and service. Some of the vignettes are personal, others soul-stirring, poignant, and tender. Often their experiences and messages reflect the world conditions at that time and serve as little snapshots of history.
In this Christmas keepsake, illustrated throughout with historical photographs, paintings, and drawings, each story of a Christmas past is a testimony of the Messiah, borne by one of His special witnesses.

This book is a treasure and one I will read with my kids forever.  It teaches us the true meaning of Christmas by telling us stories of service, love, kindness and giving!  Right now you buy the book here for $21.99 with free shipping!
Guess what?  You guessed it, you have a chance to win this book!  Are you excited?

Wow! Another great giveaway… How do you do it???

Your little girl reminds me so much of mine. She became a voracious reader at a very young age, and sparkles with goodness, just like your little girl. Tell her I liked her review, OK. 🙂

I hope you and your family are having a happy holiday season.

Hey. As you read different books this month, have you read ‘The Christmas Prayer’ by Rian Anderson and illustrated by Michael Parker? You should find it! We know the illustrator and you might recognize a character in the book!
