Conference Fun Bags

September 29, 2011 by The Things I Love Most

I am so excited for conference this year, but it is always a challenge to keep my kids busy and happy during that time.  Since I have 3 that will most likely be needing my attention I knew I needed to come up with something for them to do.  I remember when I was a kid I didn’t have to watch the Saturday session except for the prophets talk, and on Sunday I had to stay in the TV room the whole time and be reverent.  My parents would have coloring books and puzzles for us to do and we loved it.  We like our kids to listen to most of it or at least be in the room.  I usually just print off the Conference Packets that you can get online, but my kids {especially} the younger ones struggle with them and get bored after awhile.  I looked at the packets this year and took a lot from them for this project.  Also after seeing a lot of fun ideas on Pinterest I came up with a mixture of a bunch of them to help my kids have a good time during conference.
Here is how I put it together….
I printed off the pictures of the 12 Apostles and the 1st Presidency {So 15 pictures} and taped them to 15 lunch sacks! I got the pictures from the Conference packets made by Sugardoodle and Scriptures for Kids.  {I know that we might not hear all the Apostles, but after the Priesthood Session we will take the ones off that won’t talk and just put “Other”}
GMC pg 3 Agreement 017
These will be sitting out in the morning when they wake up along with a yummy breakfast {Not sure what yet…Any suggestions?}
Here is what is in each of the packets {you can pick any apostle in any order}…
#1 President Monson  I printed off {since he talks more than once} three little coloring activities that have to do with him from the conference packets here.GMC pg 3 Agreement 001
 #2 &#3 A New Puzzle from the dollar store {I actually got two}GMC pg 3 Agreement 002 #4 Eye Spy Pictures from hereGMC pg 3 Agreement 003 #5 Conference Bingo {They can be playing this throughout the whole 2 days}GMC pg 3 Agreement 004 #6 Pop some Popcorn and just listen to the talk while eatingGMC pg 3 Agreement 005
#7 A Painting Project {I just bought some wooden animals from the Dollar store}GMC pg 3 Agreement 006 #8 Cut and Color a Paper Doll Chain of the General Authorities I got hereGMC pg 3 Agreement 007
#9 Make your own Mr. Potato head I used it from here and hereGMC pg 3 Agreement 008 here
#10 Sunflower Seeds – Need I say more! My kids love to open these up and eat them! GMC pg 3 Agreement 009
#11 Straw Weaving – I saw this on Pinterest  and am excited to try it.  It originally came from here.GMC pg 3 Agreement 011
#12 Coloring Books and New Crayons GMC pg 3 Agreement 012
#13 Apostle Match Up that I got from here GMC pg 3 Agreement 013
#14 Play With Animals {I might even put some cars in for my car loving 3 year old} GMC pg 3 Agreement 014
#15 Playdough  GMC pg 3 Agreement 016
I spent about $12 dollars total for all 3 kids.  I am using my own Playdough and animals.   I am going to have a blanket for each kid to sit on and a plastic placemat for when they paint or play with their playdough.  I hope this works.  I am excited to sit and listen to conference and have the kids happy.  In between sessions we are going to go outside and get some energy out!  I hope you all have a wonderful conference weekend!!

    Super Cute idea! We use various parts of the conference packets as well and I always have some yummy something cooking and smelling the house up nice. Popcorn…. That is a great idea. And the play-doh, and puzzle…. great quiet activities to keep hands busy while ears are listening. Love it!

    Those are great ideas. I wish I’d thought of that when my kids were younger — they’re teenagers now, but the popcorn would still work!

    Looks like you are set! For breakfast, I recommend Hootenanny Pancakes (also known as German Pancakes or Monsters.) Have you ever made them? They’re easy and really yummy if you guys like eggs. I use 1/2 the butter in the pan and whole wheat flour to make them healthier. As far as toppings…well the sky’s the limit, but they are especially good with fresh fruit!

    Awesome idea! Glad you put it all together for me! 🙂 We struggle even more with conference cuz we watch it on my laptop (netflix only for us)…I don’t do the cable/tv thing..just the laptop. Sad but true..

    Kendra, you’re a genius! I love this idea. We may just have to use it. 😉

    Breakfast… You could use my family’s traditional Christmas breakfast. It’s great year-round. So simple but absolutely DELISH! It’s my favorite tradition.

    Waffles with ice cream and strawberries. Get a frozen bag of strawberries, add just a tad bit of water in a pot. Add sugar to taste and cook until hot… mash while you cook (potato masher works great!). Serve the waffles with vanilla ice cream on top and strawberries on top of that. Mmmm, I might be doing the waffle thing on Saturday… I may have just talked myself into it.

    Love it! I did this last year but wit ziplock bags and treats. I like this idea much better as it’s more of a surprise!
    As for breakfast… we’re doing a cereal bar! It’s super easy and who doesn’t love cereal?! I buy all the sugar cereals that I never buy on a regular basis. Then I dump them out into glass bowls, add a scoop, and put some milk on the table. The kids can mix and match and they absolutely love it! I love that it’s EASY!

    I saw this post on Pinterest and I am so glad I visited your blog! This is an amazing idea that I am re-pinning and am so excited to use this when my kids are a little older. Thanks so much for sharing this!

    This is a great idea. I have a bunch of other toddler and preschool ideas on my blog that would go along with these perfectly!

    Our traditional conference breakfast is sticky buns, I put them together the night before,(I use frozen rhode rolls, butter, vanilla or butterscotch dry non-instant pudding, cinnamon and brown sugar) cover with towel and go to bed. In the morning, I bake them and the family wakes up to yummy smelling rolls (we also have scrambled eggs). I have 9 children and never have a problem getting them out of bed on conference morning!
