Primary Songs That Touch Our Hearts & A Giveaway

February 7, 2011 by The Things I Love Most

If you have ever been the Chorister in Primary or served as a leader in the Primary, or sat and listened to your kids sing the songs during primary, than you know how much these songs can touch your hearts.  Sure the kids have their crazy moments, but when they know the song well and sing it with all their heart, I cry.  I remember being the chorister once and worrying that I had mascara everywhere because of the power that the kids sang with as they sang Scripture Power!

I love this years Primary theme of “I Know the Scriptures are True”  What a great thing for our kids to be learning at a young age.  The song that was written for this year is beautiful….

If I Listen with My Heart

by Salley DeFord

If I had been a little child when Jesus lived on earth
I would have liked to walk with Him and listen to his words
But as I search the scriptures I can hear His words of peace
And if I listen with my heart, I hear the Savior’s voice

I hear a living prophet speak the things that Christ would say
If He were here upon the earth to talk with me today
The prophet teaches how to live in righteousness and peace
And if I listen with my heart, I hear the Savior’s voice

I feel the Holy Spirit as he teaches truth and right
He comforts me in times of need, he testifies of Christ
He speaks to me in quiet ways that fill my soul with peace
And when I listen with my heart, I hear the Savior’s voice

Jenny Philips has complied a great CD with all the songs on it.  It is so beautiful, way better than the ones you get for free.  We listen to this CD every Sunday!  Even my two year old is learning them!

image You can hear clips of the beautiful music here.

Here are a few of my other favorite songs from years past…

Holding Hands Around the World

If the Savior Stood Beside me

I’ll Follow Him in Faith

Scriptures Power

I am very grateful for music and how it can touch our hearts.  I especially love the simple words in primary songs that teach not only our children, but we as parents how simple it is to live the gospel.  I love listening to my kids sing these words around the house and in the car.

Jenny Philips sent me 2 CD’s, one for me and one to giveaway.  Yeah!  I know you are all going to love this CD!

Here’s how to enter…

  • Just leave a comment telling me your favorite primary song!

That’s it!  Giveaway will end Wednesday at Midnight!

My all time favorite primary song is “I Know He Lives” by Clive Romney, that one brings me to tears every time. Once when I was a teacher this song was requested every week and it had been taught for the program severel years before. It’s messege is so simple and then it repeats in a different key making the message that much more powerful.

I know what you mean! My last calling before the one I have now was Primary Secretary. Though I wasn’t directly working with the kids, I was there as a support, and did have kids who would try to come sit beside me each week. I finally resorted to sitting with a couple of girls weekly so they wouldn’t leave my class.

I got so close to these sweet kids that just after being released, I sat among the congregation during a Primary Program and was very surprised at what followed. As I heard their little voices singing and could just feel the spirit radiating from them… I was so proud of them and cried as I witnessed their sweet spirits singing. It really surprised me to find myself feeling the pride and love of a parent towards them. It was amazingly powerful and wonderful. 😀 Music and kids equal a power more lovely than anything on earth. How blessed you are to serve among them!

PS I wonder how many testimonies are born during those Primary Programs. 🙂

    Corine 😀

Yes, hearing children sing the primary songs brings such a wonderful spirit! So, my new favorite primary song was the song for the theme last year “I know that my savior loves me”…I just loved listening and watching our primary children sing this!!! When I was a little girl my favorite primary song though was “Love is Spoken Here”!

I really love “A Child’s Prayer” It’s a heartfelt message as if our Heavenly Father is really talking to us in a way that little children understand.
