My Child’s Testimony of the Scriptures

September 20, 2010 by The Things I Love Most

I have to tell you how much I love my little girl…aka LaLa!   She is growing up to be such an amazing child.  I remember when she was born how grateful I was, and excited I was to have a girl.  A big “sister “to help me with the rest of the kids!!  She has always been a good helper and sister.  Yes she has her days and moments where she hates being the only girl, but she is such a sweet heart.  Recently she has said a few things that make me laugh.  She told my neighbor who has all girls {in her overly dramatic voice} to “just keep having girls, because it is so hard to have boys in a family, they are really difficult!!” She will tell me how hard it is to be the only girl in our family and that it’s not fair all of her friends that have all girls {which is half the neighborhood} because they have a friend with them all day.  Being a girl in the family stuck between two boys, I usually tell her to get over it, and she usually does!!  She is a great sister to her brothers.  And I am really grateful for the relationship she has with them.  She really is a great friend to them.  I have noticed their friendship increasing as we have started school this year.  She is not as bothered by her brothers and actually invites them to play with her more.  Hopefully one day we can have a girl, but as much as i would love for her to have a sister I can’t promise her we will.  Hopefully one day. My child's testimony of the ScripturesThe other day as I walked past her room thinking she was sleeping, but found her with her lamp on and reading the scriptures.  I said, “It’s time to go to bed, sweetie”  She said, “Mom, I love reading the scriptures, if necessary I could read them alllll night!  I love them so much, That’s good, huh?”  I was blown away by her statement.
Last year I read an article out of the Ensign about a mom that was concerned about her child’s reading.  She prayed and felt that she needed to have the child learn to read for the scriptures.  When she did the child’s reading skills improved.  After reading that I felt inspired to do the same thing.  We started with a highlighter and the scriptures and we just read one verse and she highlighted the words she knew.  It went slow, but it was fun to look back and see how much she improved.  After a couple chapters she could read the verse on her own and write in her scripture journal.  This was a very exciting thing for her and me, her proud momma, that was worried about her reading skills.  Now every night on her own she pulls out The Book of Mormon Stories book and reads 4 pages on her own!!
I know that reading that article was an answer to prayer and I know that because of reading the scriptures her reading has improved greatly.  I know that it is so important to teach her to love the scriptures.  She has already done most of this on her own.  She is learning so much from them and loves to talk about and tell the stories!!  She has such a strong testimony of the Scriptures!  I hope that as she grows her love for the scriptures will remain with her throughout her life.
This daughter of mine is a great example to me.  She helps me to remember to “Love the Scriptures” and want to read them and learn from their teachings.  I am very grateful for them and for all that I learn from them!!

Great! Lucy does that too. I also started her on reading the scriptures to improve her reading skills and she loves them as well. Especially the Old Testament!

Hi my little Grand!!!! Daughter. That’s how Grandma feel about the scriptures too. I love them. I feel the Spirit when I read them and I have such a wonderful time writing in my journal about the things I think Heavenly Father wants me to learn and do based on what I’m reading. Keep up the good work my love.

I love this! How awesome that she was reading her scriptures in bed and said she could read them all night. That is adorable.
I love the idea of her having a scripture journal. I have one. I had never thought of having my oldest keep one too. Such a great idea.
