A couple of years ago we decided to head to LEGOLAND. My kids get the LEGO magazine and had seen the ads for LEGOLAND for the last few years and could not wait to go. We had a blast. We stayed at the Homewood Suites in Carlsbad and had a wonderful time there. When planning this last trip to San Diego we decided to make sure that we went to LEGOLAND also. We surprise the kids and didn’t tell them until we were in California that we were going to LEGOLAND. We spent our first day at the San Diego Zoo, the second day at SeaWorld, and the third day at LEGOLAND.
LEGOLAND – Fun for the Whole Family
The kids were so excited. It was the cherry on top of our wonderful vacation. We decided to only spend one day there, which you can totally do at Legoland if you go on a weekday. When we first got there it was kind of busy. I would very much recommend making sure that you are there when it opens or beforehand to get in line. Like the other parks, LEGOLAND was only open from 10 – 5. They are also closed on certain days. In the month of October they are only open, Monday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday. So make sure you check the days and times if you go. Next to LEGOLAND is the SeaLife Aquarium which is really cool, but we didn’t make it there this time. It is an added cost, but not by much! Usually you can get a hopper pass for both for a really good deal. If you haven’t been there I would totally recommend it. They also have a Chima WaterPark and the regular WaterPark which my kids really wanted to go to, but they were closed for the season. Also, LEGOLAND let’s you bring food into the park. We took our lunch and ate it while we were waiting in line.
I’ve had a lot of people ask me if Legoland would be a good fit for their family. Honestly I think it is a fun place for any family no matter what age your kids are. I guess if you only have teenagers it wouldn’t be the most fun because the rides aren’t super really teenager crazy fast and thrilling rides, but if you have kids under the age of 13 or 14 you can definitely have fun at Legoland. And if you have older kids along with younger kids I think your older kids can have fun alongside the younger kids. My daughter is 12 and somebody at the park asked her if she was having fun since she was older, she replied that she loved Legoland. I guess it depends on your child’s personality but all of my kids ages 2 to 12 had a great time. Plus there are so many amazing creations to see. Any kid would love to walk around looking at all the Lego creations!
There are a lot of rides for little kids, kids ages 6 to 9, and a few fun rides for older kids. My husband’s favorite ride was Knights’ Tournament which flips you all the way around upside down and spends you all over the place. It was so funny to watch! After he went on it I decided to go on it and I had a blast. My older kids favorite rides were, Lost Kingdom Adventure, Knights’ Tournament, The Dragon, Driving School, Kid Power Towers, Sky Cruiser, AQUAZONE Wave Racer, and BIONICLE® Blaster. We decided to just start and head to the right when we walked into the park and do all of the ride over there. The bigger rides were a longer wait so we skipped those. Around 3 o’clock the rides and the crowd left so that’s when we went on the bigger longer rides. The nice thing about LEGOLAND is if there’s a ride that your little kids can’t go on, there is usually a ride close to it that they can go on. My husband would take the big kids on a ride while I took the little kids on a ride or vice versa. They don’t really advertise stroller passes but if you ask them they usually are okay with you switching riders so that the person with the baby can go on the ride with the bigger kids. There are a few rides that you can get wet on. There is also a big splash park that was open. So either bring your swimming suits or just steer clear of that area if you don’t want your kids to get wet. We told our kids not to get wet but they were pretty wet anyway from the rides. Oh well!I would definitely recommend doing all your souvenir shopping and walking through Miniland USA on your way out. Nobody’s rushing you out of the park at 5 o’clock so you can still shop. One of my kids favorite thing to buy there is their own Minifigure. You can build 3 figures for $9.99. It’s pretty fun to be able to customize your own minifigure to what you want it to look like. One of the greatest things about Legoland is if you are waiting in a line that has a long wait, they have an area where you can put your kids in to play with Legos. You can see your kids all the way up to when you need to pull them out and get on the ride. It is so nice to not listen to complaining kids asking how much longer. They actually forget they are in line for a ride because they have so much fun playing with the Legos.
On the weekends in October it is Brick-Or-Treating where the kids can come in costume, go on rides, and trick or treat to different locations in the park. I’ve actually heard they give out box sets of Legos, which would be pretty cool! Another fun thing about Legoland is you can bring some Legos and trade with the employees that are walking around. LEGOLAND is also kid free October, but you do have to purchase an adult ticket to get a kid ticket free. You can also find some amazing deals on Get Away Today, or on their year seasons passes on their website.
We had a great time and I can’t wait to go back again. I would recommend Legoland to any family with kids 14 and younger. It’s a great fun place, there’s a lot of amazing things to see and do, and fun to be had, especially if you love Legos!
We received free or discounted tickets in exchange for an honest review. All opinions are 100% mine and I was not paid to write this post.
